Life as an HRM Graduate
Hi, let me introduce myself first, l am Catherine Dela Rosa, I think I just have to share this things just in case someone might be interested from this. Somehow, someone might be interested in taking Bachelor of Arts in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Or someone might be struggling in making a decision into picking a course and might be considering to take HRM.
Back in the days where I have graduated in high school, I was a happy-go-lucky student. I am not a lazy student nor the studious type so when the time comes when we have to take exam for the college, I ended up taking one exam in one university. When I was holding the exam paper, I have no clue what I was about to decide that day. There were tons of courses, but none of them was really making me feel like taking so I decided to pick a random course which I think would not give me a hard time in college, so I took HRM.
Me as a first year HRM student at UE. :)
HRM was a fun course to take especially the activities and on the job training. Especially when you're the same type of student as me. I am the type of person that would easily love the things that I do and a person who always try to do my best in any given situation, so in my most humiliated course, I ended up graduating a cumlaude.
This was the only photo I had where I have pictures of my classmates. (a lot of them in 1 photo I mean)
The field at UE is such a good place to hang-out during breaks and after class.
University activities such as concert are also fun during college days.
"Yes we do the coooking" - A tiktok joke
Hotel and Restaurant on the job training was super fun just to mention!
To my surprise, being a cum laude won't help you get a job just because you are not a cum laude of an engineering or any high-ranking course but a cum laude of HRM so it does not adds up to your profile here in the Philippines especially if you are not good in english at a job interview.
I am such a loser at interviews so I ended up getting a job through referral of my boyfriend. The HR in the company does not even listen to what I say in the interview but I ended up getting accepted.
I became a manager of a restaurant, I enjoy the duties and responsibilities I've been given. We even do the marketing ourselves because we handle a franchise store so we even personally do the marketing in the area. I even have the opportunity to handle events in the restaurant because it has function room for meetings and can even accommodate birthdays etc.
Not to mention, we had the best owners. They were extra hands-on on the operation. Regretted we didn't have the chance to take a picture to all of our bosses(doctors) as a remembrance. They are very understanding and kind to us. It is an honor to have such kind-hearted bosses. I just wish they knew how thoughtful and kind they were to us. I wish I had the chance to thank them properly.
Yes, That was 3 years ago. This was my first course-related job and I must say it is very memorable, fun and knowledgeable job for me. HRM is one of the most discriminated courses, but I must say no one can replace the fun and learning I had from this industry. You don't just "cook" or "clean in rooms" just like every bitch would say about our course but it is a course that would teach you how to manage a restaurant, how to manage people, how to manage guests/customers (not to mention angry ones), how to smile even you don't have the reason to, how to manage an event, how to manage a hotel, and so on and so forth. But most importantly, what I love about this job/course is seeing the smile on your guest's faces being fulfilled and satisfied for the services you have rendered.
So, you, if ever you are having a doubt. Just remember that you pick any course your heart wants. It is not about courses, it is about the experience you are going to have and memories you are going to make. A friendly tip, do not hesitate to risk, I must say for my own experience that no course can dictate the path you are going to take so go ahead, take that course, enjoy it, embrace it. It may lead you to your path someday or it may just simply be one of those experiences you will have and treasure for the rest of your life so make it worth-while.

Deletehow do you handle frustration about you being indecisive about your course?
ReplyDeleteI think it just comes out naturally because of my happy go lucky personality, I was able to not overthink things and just love the course I have chosen.
